2024 dress code

 At Vital Movement Studios we believe that wearing studio uniforms give students a sense of belonging to our family as well as creating an identity for our studio in the greater community. Dance is a discipline, and our uniform is designed to put all students in the correct frame of mind as well as diminishing economic and social barriers between students. Correct uniform must always be worn. Teachers must be able to see the dancer’s body outline clearly in order to make proper corrections on posture, alignment, safe dance practices and technique.  

Vital Movement Studios promotes inclusivity and acceptance for all students. Students can choose their preferred uniform for each style regardless of gender, this includes concert costumes. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions.

UNIFORM RULES

THE FOLLOWING STYLES CAN BE WORN TO ANY OF YOUR CLASSES EXCEPT FOR BALLET OR READY SET DANCE

SOME LOOSE FITTING STYLES ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR ACRO AS LISTED IN THE ITEM DESCRIPTIONS BELOW. ACRO CLOTHING MUST BE TIGHT FITTING FOR SAFETY AND SPOTTING

ALL JAZZ, TAP, CONTEMPORARY AND ACROBTIC STUDENTS MUST WEAR BLACK CLOTHING ALONG WITH THEIR VMS UNIFOM *EXCEPT FOR ADULT CLASSES*

ALL HIP HOP STUDENTS MUST WEAR A NEW OR OLD VMS T-SHIRT/SINGLET/CROP TOP, ALONG WITH VMS PANTS/SHORTS OR YOUR OWN PLAIN BLACK BOTTOMS

JUMPERS TO BE WORN FOR WARM UP AND COOL DOWN ONLY. STUDENTS MUST ONLY WEAR VMS BRAND OR PLAIN BLACK JUMPERS TO CLASS

SIZING

There are a variety of sample sizes available to try on in the foyer. Some sizes run big, especially the sweaters and hoodies so we strongly suggest trying some on before ordering.

ORDERS

The current order for the new VMS uniform is due no later than Saturday 6th July.

All subsequent orders will be placed when we reach 20 items or more for printing.

Orders can take 4-6 weeks to arrive and you will be notified when they are ready to collect from the studio.

BALLET UNIFORM

Primary, Grade 1/2

CLOTHING

  • ‘Energetiks CL04’ mulberry sleeveless leotard

  • Mulberry crossover top and wrap skirt (optional)

  • Nude footed studio tights

SHOES

  • ‘MDM Elemental’ pink leather ballet shoes, or equivalent in leather

Grade 3 & above

CLOTHING

  • ‘Energetiks’ CL04 Black sleeveless leotard (or equivalent)

  • Black wrap skirt & crossover (optional)

  • Nude footed studio tights

  • Adult students may wear any dance or active wear clothing

SHOES

  • ‘MDM Elemental’ pink leather ballet shoes, or equivalent in split sole leather

Boys

  • Plain white short-sleeve, cotton t-shirt

  • Black dance pants or dance shorts

ADULT CLASSES

Adults can wear any suitable dancewear or activewear to Adult classes

  • Tan jazz shoes - ‘MDM Protract’ leather or equivalent

OPEN

  • Monday Open require both tan and black jazz shoes - ‘MDM Protract’ leather or equivalent

ADULT

  • Black jazz shoes - ‘MDM Protract’ leather or equivalent

Tap shoes

U8

  •   Tan tap shoes – ‘Bloch’ Tap On’s

U10 / U13

  • Tan tap shoes – ‘Slicks’ or ‘Bloch’ Tap On’s

U15

  • Tan tap shoes - Preferred brand is ‘Slicks’ or can also wear ‘Bloch’ Showtappers

SENIOR / OPEN

  • Tan & Black tap shoes required for Senior & Open classes. Preferred brands for low black shoes are ‘Bloch’ tap flex, and for tan shoes ‘Slicks’ brand.

ADULT

  • Black tap shoes for Adult classes – any size heel allowed

 

Lyrical and contemporary shoes

  • Capezio Turning Pointe 55 Contemporary shoes or equivalent for all classes

Hip Hop shoes

  • White volleys (canvas sneakers) or any plain white sneakers

Acrobatics

  • No footwear required, bare feet only      

Boys shoes

  • JAZZ – ‘BLOCH’ Black Elastaboots (or equivalent)

  • TAP – ‘Energetiks’ TSC05 Black (or equivalent)

Pointe shoes

All Pointe students must pass a pre-pointe assessment with a qualified Physiotherapist and consult Miss Jacinta BEFORE purchasing pointe shoes. She will advise what you need and where to be fitted
